NORBEC Small Business Online Accelerator Program (SBOA)
Overall the use of the internet by Northern Rivers micro and small businesses is significantly below the national average.
The Northern Rivers Business Enterprise Centre in March 2010 announced the launch of the NORBEC Small Business Online Accelerator Program (SBO).
This program is a unique opportunity for local Northern Rivers owners to grow their business through acquiring digital business and marketing skills at a very nominal cost.
The objective of the small business online program is to assist these businesses, including home based and tourism operators, to significantly enhance their web presence, increase their website usage, and engage in e-business capabilities. This in turn will improve their market opportunity take up, and help to reduce their costs and thus improve productivity.

Our presenter Linda Hailey was one of Australia’s leading experts on small business marketing and strategic planning and is a dynamic presenter. Many local business owners will recognise Linda as a presenter on Kochie’s Business Builders which airs at 10am Sundays on Channel 7. Linda was invited to become one of three “small business experts” invited on to the DELL Computers small business website.
The project is an Australian Government initiative under the Small Business Online Program and will be delivered by NORBEC throughout the region over the next 12 months. We are very grateful that AusIndustry has made funding available to us to deliver the program.
NORBEC’s SBO Accelerator Program consists of two primary phases with a selection of options available within each phase.
Phase 1. E-Action Plan Workshop
The “ How Can I Grow Through Digital Business & Marketing Program” offered a practical presentation that allowed business owners to prepare their own E-Action Plan and to qualify this with a NORBEC advisor subsequent to the workshop completed.
Phase 2. Internet Skills Modules
Following the e-Action Plan Workshop, Northern Rivers business owners selected from three core internet skills modules (2 X 3Hr Sessions) delivered through North Coast TAFE in all major centres. The nominated modules are:
-
Module 1: How to Upgrade your Website, Use Social Media and Create More Sales - Completed
-
Module 2: Search Engine Opitmisation - Completed
-
Module 3: Establishing & Maintaining a Content Management System
Each module is subsidised through the SBOA program, together with an appropriate client contribution.
NORBEC will also offer downstream opportunities including a workshop on communication synchronisation.
Business owners should also note that an integral part of the program is the provision of specialist IT and business advisory services delivered through NORBEC to individual businesses and network group participants.
